UNODC. (, 2020). An Introduction to Human Trafficking: Vulnerability, Impact, and Action [Ebook]. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Retrieved 24 October 2020, from. https://www.unodc.org/documents/human-trafficking/An_Introduction_to_Human_Trafficking_-_Background_Paper.pdf
This document by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, introduces human trafficking. The UNODC, together with leaders from the world, both state and non-state actors, saw it paramount to stop human rights trafficking as it is a severe violation of human rights. In March 2007, with the help of funding from the UAE, the UNODC established the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT), a call to action to remind societies and governments worldwide vigil about human rights violations. The document addresses human trafficking along with three subtopics. Vulnerability and this is where it is clear that children or minors instead are the most vulnerable alongside women. The document cites poverty, economic disempowerment, and destructive policies and practices as critical factors encouraging trafficking. It further discusses some of the impacts of minors' human trafficking and how some pose public health policy concerns. Finally, actions on how to deal and try to mitigate human trafficking are discussed from legislative policies to the Trafficking Protocol, a strategy to combat trafficking worldwide.
