Randomized trials are described as the study in which various group of individuals are allocated at a random rate to receive clinical interventions (Prevail, 2016, Pg. 5). This paper will consider a randomized trial of ZMapp for the Ebola Virus. ZMapp is defined as the experiment bio-pharmaceutical drug which is used in the treatment of Ebola virus disease. The purpose of this randomized trial was aimed at determining whether the combination of ZMapp and also the current standard care was capable, safe and superior to the current standard care alone in the management and control of the Ebola Virus Disease (Group, 2016, Pg.16). The trial was launched in Guinea, United States, Sierra Leone, and Liberia which were established as the hotspots for the Ebola Virus with very many cases being identified in the region.
The randomization was stratified. This is according to baseline polymerase- chain –reaction cycle threshold cycle estimated as being ≤22 cycles vs. >22 cycles, that is Liberia and Sierra Leone vs. Guinnea vs. the United States. This stratified data resulted into six strata, with each strata estimated to have 100 patients. The study which entailed ZMapp treatment primarily begun within 12 to 24 hours after the process of randomization and it consisted of the three intravenous infusions found in the Zmapp which is administered on every third day. To collect relevant and critical data, trial design method and the Prevail II trial methods were used.
