Article Review--A Quest for Certainty by John Dewey
Article Summary
John Dewey's "Quest for Certainty" is purely a collection of Gifford lectures that he delivered to European scholars at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1929. Devoting the speech to the failure of contemporary philosophy, the author used "a quest for certainty" to demonstrate the need for American pragmatist philosophy, which he believes can heal rift created by modern philosophers of theory and practice. The author presents in the essay a world where, amid the stresses and struggles of the sore affliction that surrounds him, man tries to fit in. Evidence of the sacrifices man has made to change his destiny's fate is curtailed by the hazardous challenges of security. The author's primary focus on the powers which conciliate the might of conceptions to whether art is essential for one's quest for certainty is evident. This paper, therefore, seeks to provide a review of the article "The Quest for Certainty" as based on the subject matter of the author's escape from peril.
