Implementation of Children’s Rights in Lebanon
Children’s rights refer to the specific care and protection that is given to minors. Particularly, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC, 1989) notes that children have the right to have a human identity, to basic needs like food, shelter, education, and clothing, to associate with both of its parents, to be free from discrimination of any kind, and to have civil rights equal to those of adults. Interpretations on children’s rights range from giving children the freedom to act on their own to the implementation of laws that allow them to be safe from physical, psychological and intellectual abuse. Brennan and Noggle (1997) define children’s rights as the freedom to be cared for and to be nurtured.
