Digital Dark Age is a film whose central theme is loss identity due to the high use of digital forms of keeping records. The problem does affect not only text documents but also photos, video, audio and other kinds of digital documents. Concerns about this issue are the fact that records whose main storage is in the on physical media which require special hardware to read which might not be available in a few decades to come. Also obsolete file formats, which need special software to open creates problems when retrieving the documents in future.
Cultural values and practices need passage from one generation to another (Jeffrey,2012). The new generation needs to be knowldgeable about what the grandparents used to practice. If this is not correctly done, the cultural identity will be lost. That will significantly affect negatively some practices which mainly help in preserving the integrity of the culture. There should be proper documentation on of the practices so as to avoid problems that occurs with the community. Keeping this recording will keep the future generation aware of their roots, aspects of their existence both destructive and beneficial and language. It will boost the relationship among the people as they understand each other even more. Conflicts will no longer exist and integration enhanced. Indeed, there will be more sense of belonging and sharing of national identity.
The issue of compromising cultural identity harms the society, individuals and the country as general. Cultural identity acts as a precise definition of a state even at the global level. However, its loss will mean that the national pride that existed will no longer exist. That makes the country lose status and the reputation it initially had. Individuals no longer have something that symbolizes their attachment to a particular nation and decrease in the levels of cross-cultural integration is affected.
Culture is one of the main methods that the government uses to bring unity in the country and reduce tribal conflicts. Failure to uphold the values and rituals will make it difficult for the administration to reduce disagreements. Other more costly methods will be in use which at the end might not be successful.
To solve this sproblem, some plans need to be implemented (Anderson,2015). There should be proper methods of putting the records in a file for example use of the national archives. Some of these are used as a source of inspiration to many people in the community and other cultures. They create a domestic tourism and make it possible for a future generation to access the information about their culture.
