During hyperinflation, price levels reach astronomical levels, production expenses skyrocket, poverty is prevalent, and the national debt balloons, causing the economy to fail. Because many rising and developing economies are beset with political uncertainties and inept financial institutions, the risk of hyperinflation is always high. For instance, the Zimbabwean government's economic and political corruption fueled the country's 2008 hyperinflation. The leading causes of hyperinflation in developing nations are demand-pull inflation and increased money supply, while its economic consequences include currency depreciation, market collapse, and rising poverty levels.
