Comparison and Contrasting about the Origin of Species
This paper is set to compare and contrast the different myths on origin of species according to biblical, Charles Darwin, Inca and Mayan theories. These theories are subject to either fact, reference to scientific or biblical records and through social-cultural and religious understandings. The biblical theory on creation is read on the book on Genesis chapters 1 and 2. Therefore according to these chapters, God is the creator of heaven, earth and all the living things around. From the readings on these chapters, they explain how God created the heaven, earth and living things in different days and ways. Through these creations, we read that God used commands and powers by to rule, provide and to deny different creations on issues such as ability to have, change, multiple, think or develop itself. Terms that are read through the making of living things include; creating, commanding, sawing, separating things, giving names, locating and relocation, giving powers and finally resting. Genesis creation theories symbolizes God as being intelligent, wealthy, caring, loving and full of powers over all his creations. Genesis creation theories are distinctive to modern and ancient theories about the origin of species. While the genesis chapter of the bible emphasizes on Gods creations and god as the owner of all species, modern and ancient paganism provide a different understanding and explanations to the sources of species.
Modern and ancient theories include; Charles Darwin’s evolution theories, Mayan and Inuit theories about the origin of species. Mayan and Inuit theories are comparable to the Biblical creation theory whereby universe was under control of gods that existed externally. Mayan and Inuit methodologies believe on gods that created different species. Similarly, gods created different species using pre-existing materials. In later chapters in the Bible about creation theories, the chapters, reiterates God being the creator of heaven and earth and all the species living there are controlled by mankind through the powers of God that were given. This is according to the biblical book of Psalms 96:5.
In the begin chapters of the bible, the genesis 1st, the book give two characters who include, the man and God who represents the biblical drama. God is the centre-stage while the main theme is to portray a divine love biblically whereby, God create all other things separately and offers his love to a human being by assigning then to him and to take control over them. Similarly, genesis 1 is showing God as the author of creation and creation theory being a Devine drama, the drama can then be comprehended by believes of and individual (Carlson and Longman). When reading this chapter, one tends to ask him/herself, how? When?, where? Did all that happen? Answer to these questions will remain mysterious to the audience but the main gain to the audience is the faith enrichment.
Modern theories on creation provided the Charles’s evolution theories on the origin of species. Darwin is the key character providing evidence and understanding on species origin. according to him evolution started of the simple form of life informs of an organism that continued to change and evolve forming different forms of complex organism where these processes occurred over a period of time both the Biblical and Dawning’s theories stresses out on reproduction systems occurring to animals and plants and their genetic characteristics that contributes to the existence of species over the years. moreover, Biblical and Dawning’s theories shows how that life originated from a common beginning; for instance, the biblical theory shows God as a creator while the Darwin theory shows originality in form of common organism. The major difference regarding the two theories is that biblical theory is based on natural perspective while the Darwin theory is based on scientific perspective. According to the scientific view on origin of species, a chemical and biological composition of matter progressively changes to bring life on the planet. Natural perspective ways of creation are based on a belief. The second different regarding the two theories is that, Creation theory supports the survival and extinction of species through natural influences of the creator, God who is regarded as main provider of his creations. scientific theories about Darwin provides ideas and information on how organisms extinct due to effects related ordinary forces that either interfere with a living thing either chemically or biologically (Darwinetal2008).
According Darwin’s theory Man originated from an animal that through environmental facture, its changes gradually over years until it formed mankind. Both Biblical and Darwin’s theories provide a similarly in the assumption of reproduction. Biblically, God created a reproduction process through the creation of a man and a woman who reproduces to make other human beings through a biological process. God removes a rib from Adam and modifies it to make a woman for him while Darwin theory there is the essence of vegetative reproduction and sexual reproduction through transfer of genes that ensures the survival of organisms. Both theories agree on a common source of all life, in Genesis chapter two, God is the creator of all living and non-living things while Darwin theory life started from a common ancestor (Carlson, Richard F, and Tremper, 2008). On the other hand Darwin theory emphasizes on the issue of evolution where living things undergo changes and adaptation that enhance their survival whereas creation theory in genesis two does not give room for evolution as God saw that everything he created was good and fit for survival because he had created all that they needed for their survival in the Garden of Eden. Similarly biological reproduction processes supports the evidences of Darwin theories of biological processes that transforms and make different living organisms. Scientific methods have no tangible evidence except from the science itself, while biblical evidenced can only be referred from the bible itself. Biblical evidences cannot provide who, where, how the God is while Darwin theory can be explained using scientific evidence scientific knowledge explains the anatomical and morphological changes and adaptations that have occurred in the course of time. These adaptations work for the good of the organism so as to cope with the dynamic nature of the universe and help them to conquer new territories that are conducive for their survival.
Mayan creation theory is based ancient believes on gods that existed externally from earth. According to mayan theory gods that made world and include Tepeu the Maker and Gucumatz the Feathered Spirit. These two Gods met in the darkness and decided to create the world through imaginations. Anything they could think about in their imaginations came to being and exhausting all imaginations the world way create and complete with everything. Animals were also created and later decided to man a mankind that was created after a number of attempts. Previous attempts to make a mankind lacked simple skills that made them be destroyed while others disappeared in the woods and became monkeys (Kaku).
Inuit theory is centered at Raven, as the main creator of the world that existed and was empty and silent. The theory is sources from "Raven" that made the waters with beats of his wings. Accordingly, man existed but had no knowledge of survival or the ability to do anything. The "Raven" being the main character that changed the man nature by offering whatever it was asked. Every creation was done in different days as man asked from the Raven. Therefore, most creations including animals, plants and other beings were made through man desire for then and from the powers of the raven. The similarity between Inuit myth and Darwin theory showed the existence of external forces that influence the existence of living th...
