A BRIEF HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE YORUBA PEOPLE
The Yorubas can be found in Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo,Lagos, Kogi and parts of Kwara state in Nigeria. A good number of Yoruba people also inhabit the south Eastern part of the Republic of Benin.
As a reult in slave trade,a considerable number of Yoruba people can be found in other West African countries, West Indies and South America. Since the early ancestors left no written records, the question of the Yoruba early history cannot be accurately answered. There are many oral traditions that explain the origin of the Yoruba People. One of such myths claimed that Yoruba land is the center of creation where Olodumare(God) sent Oduduwato create the first drylandof the marshy waste that covered the earth, then Oduduwa accomplished his task by pouring the premordial sand of the marsh waste and allowing the premordial fowl to spread it over the
