In this book Daniel Pink asserts that right-brainers are the ones holding the future of the global business. Pink (2005) identifies four major historical stages that the mankind has passed through. These stages are: the agricultural age, the industrial age, the information age and the conceptual age. During the agricultural age farmers were the most dominant people. Farmers achieved dominance at that time because of their role in producing food and feeding the society. The industrial age comprised of factory workers and of large industries that had a thirst for raw materials. This made European countries to seek for raw materials for their industries, leading to the emergence of colonization.
Pink (2005) believes that a major characteristic of the information age is knowledge workers had concerning their industries and other aspects that touched on their lives. This was made possible because of innovations in information technology and a free media. The focus of Pink in the fourth stage is the manner which can make business organizations become successful. The author identifies three important trends that shape the future of the economy and business. These trends are the capability of customers to have too many choices, outsourcing of services and goods, and automation of business processes.
