In recent times, stem cell research has generated several contentious disputes regarding the ethical constraints this research involves. Specifically, the human embryonic cells research. The problematic relevance of these concerns aligns with the political controversy around abortion and contraception in our society. The fundamental ethical question is: When is an embryonic cell or a fertilized egg deemed a human life? Second, should we permit government-funded research that affects the outcome of their lives to be supported?
Numerous people would claim that life starts at conception when fertilization occurs. Others may contend that human existence is impossible without awareness or brain activity. Who, then, determines where and when the threshold will be established regarding human life manipulation via research? Does the fact that the research community has found a way to undertake this study imply that the community should fund it? We must determine if we have a moral commitment to pursue research for the sake of humankind and whether the advantages exceed the hazards. In 2009, during his administration, after issuing an executive order to reverse the Bush Administration's ban on embryonic stem cell research, President Barack Obama announced that it was our nation's responsibility to contribute to these research initiatives. The U.S government has spent billions to maintain its position as the leading nation in scientific research, investing in life-saving vaccines, innovative cancer therapies, and the Human Genome Projects.
