i. Background of the Study
A Case Study on the Status of the Implementation of the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers aims to find out how this law has been implemented and inquire if it has advanced the rights and the welfare of teachers at work, enhanced their status as professionals, and conditions for effective teaching and learning. The project utilized a participatory action research design where the teachers are the ones to identify their problems, issues, and concerns related to the implementation of the Magna Carta, and gathered conclusions and recommendations to ensure that the process involves a critical inquiry and an educative interaction. ii. Objectives of the Study
The study hopes to achieve the following:
Policy scan of national laws and policies supporting the country implementation of the UNESCO-ILO Joint Resolution Concerning the Status of Teachers;
Gather information on the status of the implementation of the law;
Gather concrete evidences of violations of teachers' rights and professional freedoms;
Facilitate systems of consultation and social dialogues between the government and teachers’ organizations as basis for strengthening the monitoring mechanism of implementing the Magna Carta; and
Increase the awareness of the teachers on the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers.
