Prevalence of Diabetes in Hispanic Populations
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the United States is increasing unprecedentedly, affecting over 30 million people of all ages. While the general knowledge suggests that blacks are influenced the most, a recent study indicates that the disease's prevalence among Hispanic Americans surpasses every other community. For instance, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2020) estimates, the crude prevalence among adults in the 2013-2016 period was 14.7%, 14.9%, 16.4%, and 11.9% among Hispanics, Asians, Blacks, and Whites, respectively. However, Cheng et al. (2019) found that the rates are 12.1% for whites, 19.1% for Asians, 20.4% for blacks, and 22.1% for Hispanics. The researchers argue that the national estimates on the morbidity and mortality rate of diabetes usually overlook data for Asian
