Cucina Fresca Pasta
The success of Cucina Fresca pasta was as a result of various factors such as new product, existing demand, untapped opportunity in the market, and excellent market research. Cucina Fresca pasta was a new product in the market since it was made of whole grain and did not sacrifice the taste of the pasta. The success of a new product in the market relies on the research carried out by the company. Before introducing the product, the company must research the changing needs of consumers to develop products that meet the existing needs of consumers (Barclay, Dann & Holroyd, 2010; Fuller, 2011). Nelson BASE was contracted by TruEarth Company to research on the changing needs of consumers, especially the dual-income household (Rangan & Yong, 2009). The households had little time to prepare meals for their families and thus preferred ‘ready to eat’ meals. This includes meals that are easy to prepare and still provide the necessary nutrients required by the body. Therefore, the changing needs of consumers resulted in increased demand for whole-grain products such as bread, snacks, and pasta (Rangan & Yong, 2009). However, the previous whole-grain pasta was disliked by consumers due to taste and nutrition. Therefore, TruEarth Company invested in the opportunity to produce a whole grain product that met the fallback of previous whole grain products. The Cucina Fresca pasta was made of whole grain and comprised great taste and nutrition factors.
