Sullivan and Baruch (2009) hypotheses that the society has recorded many adverse impacts despite the beneficial discoveries that came about with continuous technological inventions and innovations. Loss of employment is one of the major negative effects that hit the society. High levels of unemployment resulted from the technological and implementation era where most of the companies began using machines that employees could not adapt to. These workers lacked the necessary skills; knowledge and experience that could assist them to operate these machines (Need, 2006). This paper provides a consultative advice for different employees who lost their jobs as a result of shifting from call centers to new applications.
How to Deal with Employees who lost their Job Due to Technological Advancement
Sullivan and Baruch (2009) claims that it is important to start by inviting all the staff members prone to losing their jobs due to advancement in technology in seminars for advice. Here, companies should ensure that they prepare their workers in respect to the looming threats of job loss. Preparation should entail psychological help to ensure that those targeted are ready to face the real life situation. Companies should conduct exhibitions, benchmarking activities, and provide training seminars that will see a smooth transition of the employees to their new way of life (Need, 2006).
As such, it important encourage these workers to talk to their families, friends, and relatives to be well prepared to receive such individuals (Kalleberg, 2009). Also, the company can invest in more industries such as the craftsman sector to enable all employees with sector-wide skills to gain alternative employment in such places. On the other hand, the company can train employees on farming and other techniques of earning a living that is usually not technologically demanding (Tidd, Pavitt, & Bessant, 2011). People should also be educated and trained to gain the appropriate skills rather than being sacked immediately.
