Uber’s entry into the market nine years ago caused a stir in the taxi industry. The company introduced digital booking services and a low pricing model. Taxi operators feared that they would lose most of their clients to the new entrant. However, Uber was only successful for the first five years. In 2015, it started facing many challenges. Although the brand was popular among travelers, the drivers were underpaid. In addition, the operational model that Uber adopted caused workplace cultural challenges. The poor workplace culture gave its competitors an added advantage. The company has also struggled with several legal battles initiated by disgruntled clients and employees. However, in order to regain its competitiveness, the firm has put in place several measures. In addition to transforming its workplace culture, the firm has rolled out better remuneration terms for its employees and streamlined its operations globally.
