1 What are your initial thoughts and feelings regarding this case?
A close look at the family problem presented in this case, my initial thoughts is that this is a crisis that has resulted from the change in the working conditions of the Mr. Olivares. I feel that the fact that the bread winner has lost their job and is worried about could have triggered his urge to drink more, leading to a shortage in finances, and what follows is family conflict.
2 What challenges is the couple experiencing?
The couples are experiencing transitional challenges after Mr. Olivares lost his job. Mr. Olivares is experiencing stress after losing his work, which means he has to work longer to fend for the family. Consequently, he is overstretched and resorts to drinking to relieve his stress. At the same time, the wife is feeling the pressure due to the sudden change of the husband’s behavior. Commonly, such transitions that affect family financial stability and behavior are likely to lead to conflict (Zastrow 113).
3 What Sources are available to them?
Apart from family services agency, there are many sources where Mr. Olivares family can seek family support services. Marriage counseling services are plenty in the US, provided by both public and private institutions (Zastrow 114). Besides, there are specialized services for immigrant families that most Mexican immigrants can acquire help from during such problems.
