Salary information
For both the employer and the employee, revealing salary information in job postings is sensitive and at times tricky. The sensitivity of this matter can serve as both a disadvantage and an advantage for both the employer and the employee (Yeung 123). For the employer, it restricts the power to negotiate during the job posting process. However, for the employee it helps in proper negotiations during interviews. Also, it encourages transparency and fairness which gives the company a niche above companies in the competition in regard to the clientele and work force.
When an employer reveals the salary information in a job posting, it helps in immediately generating interest and helps the prospective employees to determine if they are most suitable for the position in the job posting or not. This will help the employee to filter the jobs based on the understanding of their worth. He or she will discard the underpaid opportunities that do not meet his or her financial obligations. However, if the salary is too low, most suitable candidates may not apply. It is important that if the salary is too low for a prospective employee, the employer needs to mention other benefits, such as, flexible schedules, health benefits, and culture that may be attractive and crucial in retaining top talent. Hiring candidates with the skills and experiences required for the job facilitates proper strategic development and enhances productivity. Therefore, it is important for a company to post a salary range instead of a fixed amount. Based on this, the employee has some room for negotiation though this might also lead to problems because some candidates might consider their worth to be at the top of the range.
Inequalities based on gender and remuneration still exist in most companies across the world. Statistics show that more men negotiate salaries after receiving job offers than women. This reluctance by the females to negotiate salaries is a major contributor to the widening gender gap (Babcock & Laschever 119). To overcome such inequalities, an employee needs to know the salaries paid for jobs in other organizations comparable to the one he or she is seeking. Revealing salary information can help employees to show shrewdness and keen insight which is likely to make their research and negotiation skills known by the empl...
