Carr, J. (2014, June 2). Species and climate change: More than just the polar bear. International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Web link: https://portals.iucn.org/library/node/9441
This artcle discusses the symbolic value on Polar bears on the impact of climate change on the natural world. The author notes that despite the polar being an endangered species, it is not the only one as there are more species that are significant to humans that are adversely affected. Ten dominant species are discussed in the article and the ways in which climate change affects them is explored.
I agree with the paper postulation that the Polar bear is threatened by the advancing effects of climate change. The reduction in ice is threating to greatly reduce their populations. Nature conservatives have already identified the polar bear as one of the species under threat of extinction if there will be advancement in destruction of ice lands. The shrinkig of ice levels will grealy impact on their reproduction and also cause starvation. It is also evident that other species that are prey to the polar bear are to be affected by the escalation in the levels of climate change, including processes such as pollution, human encroachment and exploitation of mineral resources in their lands. Further, climate change will lead to conflict bwteen the bears will lead to a lethal and unbalanced food chain.
