The authors assessed the accuracy of the Cincinnati scale in predicting stroke among hospitalized patients with neurologic symptoms. Accurate systems for diagnosing potential stroke is important, given the increasing cases of acute neurologic syndromes. This question is relevant to my populations, and the policy decision as the tool is needed for quick and accurate identification of the neurological status of a resident presented with signs and symptoms.
The study is a retrospective cross-sectional study that relies on both qualitative and quantitative. This type of research is appropriate for studying the research question. This is a feasible approach of collecting samples with and without the condition of interests to make comparisons. The study design also allows the research to ask questions about the exposure to risk factors in the past. However, the research fails to explain if the patients were exposed to risk factors. The results on the accuracy of the Cincinnati scale were compared with the final diagnosis results of the neurologists. The study has no appropriate sampling frame and sampling method. Calculation of samples is unclear. The sample comprised of patients referred to the Poursina Hospital emergency unit with at least one neurologic sign. This is unclear whether the patients were assessed by pre-hospital care providers or any medical services before any study to ascertain the conditions. There is no appropriate exclusion criteria and response rate indicated. Samples were from a single hospital; therefore, generalization becomes difficult.
