Significance to Quality
In healthcare, quality assurance is a key requirement that ensures that patient outcomes are achieved desirably. Health regulating bodies, for example, the Joint Commission, regulatory agencies, and healthcare financing administrators, require health care institutions to attain a certain level of quality in patient care. Therefore, quality assurance personnel will require to assess patient care data and statistically analyze it to know whether it relates to the set standards. Also, the quality of health care related to the ability for healthcare institutions to treat patients with similar diagnosis and achieve the same outcomes. Statistics can be used to test the effectiveness of quality management by allowing a comparison of patient care data for a similar outcome (Stommel & and Dontje, 2014). In other words, statistics enable healthcare professionals to measure patient performance before and after intervention using patient data, hence allowing to record quality performance. Overall, quality health care requires an evidence-based practice that is supported by statistics (Giuliano & Polanowicz, 2008).
