Introduction
Dental hygiene refers to the art of keeping one’s mouth cavity in a very healthy state by regular brushing in conjunction with frequent examination by the dentist. Dental hygienists take the main part in examining a person mouths cavity. These people are also involved in clinical assessments, providing oral health education and giving out strategies in the promotion of oral health among people of all ages. It is therefore very important for the clinical dental hygienists to identify and evaluate scientific literature, the dental care products and the modalities of treatment. This is important because these are some of the common problems patients present to the dentist.
Commentaries being one of the methods the dental hygienist can rely to get the scientific literature are used to find about new products and advanced treatment. The commentary reference is always researched to find more knowledge and its merit. The published literature reviews provide some of the answers to clinical questions to how effective the product can treat. The scientific literature can also provide the changing technology and the therapeutic advances (Gehrig & Willmann, 2008)
At first the treatment modalities enables the dentists to provide treatment very easily especially those diseases that cause high morbidity such as oral cancer. Treatment modalities also provide knowledge about risks of infection from one person to another.
