Clinical manifestations present in Ms. G and recommendations to make for continued treatment and rationale for the recommendations
Ms. G presents pain in the affected leg, chills, a skin sore on the left leg which is yellow-red in color and high fever (38.9 degrees C). For continued treatment, a course of antibiotic tablets is recommended. The laboratory results from the wound culture indicate that the wound is infected with bacteria. Thus, the antibiotics will serve to destroy the bacteria (Williams, 2008). Another recommendation for Ms. G is to use some painkillers like paracetamol and ibuprofen. These drugs will be helpful in relieving her pain and also reduce her fever. Using a moisturizer cream on the skin area affected by the wound until it heals is also recommended. Applying the moisturizer aids in preventing the skin from getting dry and damaged. In addition, Ms. G should drink plenty of fluids to also prevent her skin from being dehydrated since the skin and immune cells that take part in healing require an environment that is moist. The last recommendation is for Ms. G to keep the infected leg raised whenever she is resting. This will make her feel more comfortable and help to reduce the swelling on the leg.
Muscle groups likely to be affected by Ms. G's condition
The muscle groups likely to be affected include gastrocnemius, soleus, tibialis anterior and peroneus longus.
The significance of the subjective and objective data provided with regard to follow-up diagnostic/laboratory testing, education, and future preventative care and rationale for the answer
Objective data is important in designing a therapy plan specific to the patient. For instance, the objective data provides specific information about the cellulitis and what may be fueling its spread i.e. the bacteria. As a result, the physician is able to come up with strategies to help treat the cellulitis. The subjective data is helpful in determining whether the therapeutic objectives are being met. During the follow-up visit, the patient provides the health care provider with information about their progress and from this subjective data, the healthcare provider is able to gage whether the patient is recovering or not.
Factors present in this situation that could delay wound healing, and precautions required to prevent delayed wound healing
One of the factors is her diabetic condition. Diabetes reduces immune system efficiency, the defense of the body against infection (Sussman & Bates-Jensen, 2007). The high glucose level causes the immune cells to function inefficiently. As a result, the body is unable to fight infection effectively leading to delayed wound healing. Another factor is immobility. A person who is immobile is at risk of delayed wound healing due to friction and constant pressure. The last factor is obesity. The measurements taken reveal that Ms. G is obese. An obese patient may have protein malnutrition that may delay wound healing.
In order to prevent delayed wound healing, the patient should ensure that she is well nourished by eating a good b...
