This is the world’s most deadly disease that weakens one’s immunity, weakening the body’s ability to fight diseases. It is the current most killer disease in the world. Many people, including children and youth suffer from the disease. It is important for them to know their rights so that they can feel part of the society and not neglected. This article discusses these rights in detail.
PATIENTS RIGHTS
HIV patients have rights to access quality health care services. The main concern by physician and nurses is so that these people can be given anti-retroviral drugs to make them healthy. They must also be given enough food (balanced diet) to boost their immunity and their health fitness. They also should have social security. This is to say that, they need someone to help them if they are weak and unable to do anything. The concern by nurses is that, when patients have social security, they feel cared upon and part of the family, which reduces their mental stress.
The aforementioned concerns influence patient’s treatment. This is because, if they can access health facilities with their privacy maintained, they feel free to be treated. Moreover, if they are provided with balanced meals as recommended by a doctor, their health improves, and they will also go for treatment as this gives them hope (Sepkowitz, 2001).
In summary, the relationship between patient’s rights and patient’s responsibilities is that they depend on one another. If patients have their rights, they feel part of normal people and can be productive to the society as they are not neglected. It is also important to note that the role played by physician or a nurse changes primarily when dealing with HIV patients. This is because they have to guide and also motivate them so that they may live longer (Evian, Clive, 2006).The influence of legal decisions on patient treatment includes the four related skills of communicating a decision, understanding relevant information, appreciating the current situation and its effects and managing information.
