Abstract
I intend to research and deliberate on technology in the healthcare workplace with a particular bias on how it affects the nursing profession. Technology has permeated every facet of the healthcare workplace since time immemorial so I will restrict my research on recent and predicted future technologies. First off, I will delve into the definition, basis, causes and scope of technology in relation to nursing. Next I will look at the relevant legal or ethical issues brought about by the use of technology. I will follow this with some of the opportunities afforded by technology, the challenges, consequences and possible resolutions to these issues. Finally, I will look at scholarly works on technology that closely relate to nursing practice and health care. Electronic Health Records (EHRs). EHR is the digital documentation of a patient’s medical and health history drawn from many sources like clinics, hospitals, and other public health agencies. Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) is a clinical software application that enables providers to write patient's orders electronically. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 regulates the transfer of electronic data.
