Gentrification refers to the process of renovating deteriorated neighborhoods in urban centres while super gentrification means transforming upper middle class neighborhoods that had already been gentrified into enclaves that are exclusive and more expensive Atkinson(2016). In the landscape of London, gentrification and super gentrification are happening because of intense investments and consumptions that are conspicuous by super rich financiers who want to invest in London.
Gentrification is made to improve the neighborhoods quality by shifting its racial composition and household’s average income by development of new pricier housing, improved resources and businesses. Gentrification and super gentrification can affect a city negatively or positively.
Gentrification is mostly caused by the ever-increasing population of a country, which leads to a higher housing demand, which implies that there is a rapid increase in demand for land. However, since land is a limited factor it means that the demand for more housing can never equate the demand for land and so the old houses will be renovated which means that they will become more expensive forcing the old residents who are low income earners to migrate and hence gentrification happens. This displacement of households can bring about a huge impact in areas where gentrification is happening in a fast face since it will attract highly skilled workers, large corporations, investors hence raising the cost of living.
