Why Executives Refuse to Work as Project Managers
There are various reasons why the management of any company refuses to take the responsibility of acting as the sponsor of a project. The first reason is that overseeing a project from the start till its finishing is quite challenging, especially when you understand the risks involved. Most project managers act as entrepreneurs, and they thus have the mindset of foreseeing future risks involved as well as having the capacity to organize the objectives in every project in seeing to it that the desired goal is achieved. In acting as the project managers, the management will be answerable to any accruing risk in the course of the operation, which they largely do not wish to be a part of. A case study by Kerzer in the year 2003 showed that individual managers of a company would derail in making a decision or in giving one to avoid future consequences that would have risen from workers who acted on the decision they received (Kerzner, 2003).
