As organizations with high requirements and expectations, these hospitals require a rigid organizational structure, particularly a vertical one. This requirement plays a key role in ensuring that the management and staff work synchronously without causing a mishap within the system. Each task or level of task is specifically assigned to a particular person or department within the structure (Dekoulou & Trivellas, 2017).
Board of Directors. As a National Corporation, the operations are overseen by a board of directors. The board members include persons selected by the Ministry of Health and Hospital management. A major university is also involved in the oversight.
Executives, on behalf of the board, ensure that decisions are carried out and policies implemented for smooth and standard running of hospital operations. In particular, the Chief Executive Officer represents the office in top level management (Karisa & Wainaina, 2020).
Different departments within the hospital are then assigned to a department manager who reports to the top management. Such managers will usually oversee a particular medical or other operational service. Clinical services, under a directorate have various departments including nursing, surgical, pharmaceutical, internal medicine services. Corporate services include Human Resource Management, finance, marketing and communication and administration.
Patient care managers such as nurse managers and supervising consultants are placed in charge medical officers, nurses and other professionals offering direct health care. They enhance appropriate provision of health services in line with hospital operating procedures (Agoi, 2019).
