Project Plan
Granby Group is the leading electric installation and construction company in Canada and among the companies that are continuously leveraging new opportunities as the world transitions to green energy to power different industries. The company has identified electric charging stations as the latest investment due to the rising number of electric vehicles in the country and the government’s initiative to encourage commercial organizations and individuals to transition to green energy CITATION Aij22 \l 1033 (Aijaz & Ahmad, 2022). Granby seeks to expand its operations and start managing and installing EV charging stations in Canada. The company’s main objective is to become the leading EV station installation and management in strategic locations to ensure easy access for EV owners and create a commercial opportunity in the electric vehicle infrastructure industry.
Granby specializes in the installation of level 2 and 3 public EV stations throughout Canada, taking advantage of the government’s plan to increase the intake of immigrants from other countries looking for employment opportunities. Furthermore, the government seeks to take advantage of the vastness of the country’s land resource which offers an opportunity for organizations to establish factories in unused land. Furthermore, Granby plans to resolve the current charging issues in households that only have one charger to cater to several EV vehicles CITATION Dav17 \l 1033 (David & David, 2017). The company plans to install 2 charging ports in households to ensure families with more than one electric vehicle can conveniently charge them simultaneously.
To achieve the objective, Granby has partnered with Lucas Construction Company which plans to build 20 townhouses in Capilano, British Columbia. The partnership offers Granby an opportunity to roll out a pilot project for installing level 2 EV chargers in households to evaluate the viability of the project and identify potential issues and opportunities that might arise during the installation. Besides Granby’s role of installing the charging stations in the townhouses, the company will also get involved in the architecture of the houses primarily in the garage area where most EV chargers are located within the houses. The company’s plan also aligns with the current global initiative to strategically create a reliable network of electric vehicle charging stations in areas where EV owners can access them over long distances. Moreover, the organization’s plan to install dual charging stations in houses through a railing system supports commercial installations by increasing the number of EV owners that leave their homes with full batteries thus reducing waiting time in commercial EV charging stations.
Project Objectives
1 Bolstering EV Charging Stations in a Growing Market
As the EV market continues growing due to the government’s initiative to encourage people to embrace clean energy, Granby takes advantage of the opportunity by upscaling its commercial and domestic charging station installations. Furthermore, people are seeking reliable and efficient charging stations which positions Granby to become a regional leader for their reputation for installing reliable infrastructures all over Canada. By increasing its EV charging installations, the company can diversify its portfolio and become the leading installation company in the region.
2 Selecting Strategic Locations
The company aims to select strategic locations for the EV installations to make them accessible to EV owners and reduce instances where customers run out of power on major roads posing a threat to other traffic users. The company plans to select high-traffic locations where such as near commercial parking lots. Shopping centers and commercial buildings with considerable numbers of EV users. Apart from ensuring that people can access charging stations, the company’s procedure for selecting the right locations for installing their EV stations includes increasing the utility of the stations to increase profitability and make the venture fully viable. Weather conditions are also a major determinant of the locations since EV stations are susceptible to cold weather, wet weather, and extreme temperatures. Therefore, the company will first ensure that the charging stations are located strategically in areas where they are less likely to encounter technical difficulties due to weather conditions.
3 Regulatory Requirements
Granby must assess the country’s regulatory requirements to ensure its EV charging station installments align with the government’s requirements. The government has also been pressuring organizations and individuals to embrace green energy and sustainable practices which align with the company’s commercial interest in upscaling EV charging station installations. The government has also been introducing incentives for organizations that are embracing EV and other clean energy technologies to make them cheap and accessible to individuals and organizations. The incentives include grants and tax cuts for organizations that install charging stations and individuals purchasing electric vehicles in different provinces. Granby will also contribute to cutting carbon emissions by increasing accessibility to EV charging stations and encouraging more Canadians to purchase electric vehicles.
4 Improving Customer Experience and promoting National Infrastructure
Granby’s plan to upscale EV charging installations is a crucial objective since the company has a reputation for ensuring seamless services to its customers. The level 3 charging stations will improve customer experiences across the country since they are fast chargers capable of charging 80 percent battery in 30 minutes; this saves time for EV users and attracts more customers to transition from conventional vehicles. Besides installing fast charger installations, the company will have to develop new applications and software to allow users to locate charging stations near them as dependence on mobile applications for business and shopping continues increasing. Furthermore, the apps will improve customer experience by offering them a seamless payment system. Alternatively, Granby can integrate its services with current EV apps to eliminate the need for installing new apps when using Granby EV stations. The organization can therefore use innovative solutions such as partnerships with other EV apps and other technologies to differentiate itself from common EV services by resolving issues that make other EV service providers unreliable. Improving the company’s maintenance system will also be part of the company’s plan which will involve routine maintenance, customer support, and remote monitoring to continuously assess the technical state of the EV charging stations.
5 Monitoring the Pilot Profitability of 30% Per Station
Granby plans to monitor the pilot profitability of 30 percent per station to determine the viability of the project within the first 3 months while adhering to a budget of less than $2000 for installing costs within the first 3 months. Furthermore, the company plans to assess charging duration, the number of vehicles that access the charging stations in a day, and kilo watts consumed by each vehicle. The data will allow the organization to continuously monitor performance improve customer experience and encourage more Canadians to transition to electric vehicles.
6 Exploring Partnerships with Local Construction Companies.
This objective will enable the company to partner with construction companies that do not offer EV charging station installations which will allow the company to increase the number of domestic customers. Furthermore, the partnerships will reduce operational costs since the construction companies will be responsible for designing the houses while Granby only participates in the final stage of designing the garage area and installing the charging stations.
7 Vision for Long term expansion.
Granby’s project will involve assessing the company’s vision of becoming a green energy industry leader after the completion of the pilot project where it will install 20 stations in city homes.
Research Methods
1 Conducting Market Analysis
Granby will use market analysis as a means of assessing the competitive landscapes of designated locations to be able to differentiate the company’s objectives and plans from the current EV charging station service providers. The company will conduct the market analysis by determining the number of companies operating in the designated areas, the quality of their services, and their pricing strategies. The information will allow the organization to develop a system that is superior to competitors, especially improving customer experience. Granby will also assess the current EV charging innovations including the type of hardware and software used to improve customer experience. Additionally, the company will evaluate its competitors’ growth strategies and current market shares to determine the type of competitors in the market and their competitive powers.
The market research method involves surveys and questionnaires for collecting data from people currently subscribes to EV charging services. Furthermore, Granby group will use focus groups that will include small groups of stakeholders, clients and EV drivers and owners. The focus groups will be led by moderators who will ensure that individuals in the focus groups will be able to express their experiences with charging stations and their overall viewpoints. The data will allow the company to design superior hardware, software, and customer experiences.
