Contributions of Reiner Martens in Sports Psychology
Sports Psychology has evolved since the 1950s to accumulate extensive research conducted on various theories and hypotheses proposed by sports psychologists. These psychologists' efforts have elevated the ideology of approaching sports from both an athlete's and coaches' perspectives to include issues of ethics, leadership, teamwork, and basic training. The cumulative research and reports of Reiner Martens have played a key role in identifying specific areas that have been controversial or dubious in the areas of research. Reiner Martens was one of the forthcoming researchers in sports psychology who delved much into practices involved in sports and wrote extensively on sports psychology and experiments, thus an influential figure in the current studies and comprehension of athlete and coach psychology dynamics.
Sports psychology's goal has been to improve the training process and increase the reliability of athletes in the field. Martens wrote books, articles, and editions on sports psychology, which configured the alternative influences that could improve the performance of athletes and coaches in the field. His book, Social Psychology and Physical Activity has been read widely by coaches and sports training institutes to help divulge knowledge on the primary areas of sports practice and where to expand on research to be able to meet the potential of athletes. As a sport psychologist, Marten's approaches to social analysis were instrumental in busting the bubble on empirical studies that had formally been ignored the critical issues such as social relations of leadership and teamwork in sports.
