Assessment 1: Describe three career development theories
Career development comprehends aspects such as theoretical approaches, social context approaches, cultural and ethnic outlooks, international and economic perspectives. Ideally, the varsity leads to immense career choices and theories that try to explain the development process and the alternativeness towards the career development processes. Career development theories include the traitor and factor theory, the Ginsberg theory, the Donald’s super theory, Holland theory, Kromboltzs theory. Superlatively, the methods have been recently classified into developmental theories, social cognitive theories and person-environment fit theories.
According to Gothard (2001), the person-fit theory is explained through the traitor and factor theory that identifies an individual’s traits by studying the individuals critically, identify their occupation and match the obtained characteristics with their professions. The argument is considered to be limited as it does not focus on the interest values and personalities of the individuals. Likewise, Holland’s theory is based on individuals’ perception. According to Holland (1985), individual career choices are influenced by the extensions of a unique persona and a person is attracted to an environment that meets their needs. To adequately explain the concept Holland developed a six-frame scale: common, imaginative, ingenious, exploratory and inventive characteristics that explained the context.
