SOAS, University of London was established in 1916. It is a public university which was a transformation from the London institute. It is located at 2 Finsbury Circus, London. Even after being awarded charter in 1916 in a ceremony that was crowned by King George V, it couldn’t admit its first students until the subsequent year in the month of January. The main aim was to provide a retaliation force from other global institutions by then such as Paris, and Berlin. It was devoted in upgrading British education, science, and commerce in Africa and Asia. In fact, it was attracted a lot by the African culture until branded with the motto, ‘The School of Oriental and African Studies’ (Soas.ac.uk, 2016). The prominence of the school has drastically been evident globally as it has yielded many prominent people worldwide. Some of the big names have occupied public offices such as heads of states, government ministers, and countless public servants. It has also dominated the market of School of law making it one of the biggest universities in Britain.
Throughout the history of the university, it has been affected by major world instability. For instance, it was originally located at the Vandon House, Vandon Street but moved to Thornhaugh Street. When the Second World War became intolerable and making the place unconducive or learning, through the government intervention, it shifted from the city of London to outskirts of the town but later brought back after the place was controlled. By then, the Japanese Government pleaded to become associate b sponsoring some Japanese Linguistic courses. This can be termed as one of the breakthroughs of the university as it blossomed in terms of population and scholarships from both governments.
After Second World War ceased, the school was overtaken by a dictator who was the principal administrator of the institution. Sir Cyril Philips was determined to broaden the school in terms of infrastructure. Due to this, it became a school of its own kind. Recently, it the charter was revised and became and allowed her students to be awarded using SOAS name. On the same line, the government revised the visual identity which incorporates Asia, Arica, Middle East and England. It is prominent in postgraduate degrees in the fields of laws, social sciences, Languages, and Humanities.

SOAS has testified beyond any doubts the quality of products it offers (Soas.ac.uk, 2016). Since its conception, it has seen through many dignitaries occupying public offices starting from the head of states up to Nobel Peace-Prize Laurent. According to ofsted published in 2016, it shows that there is indeed quality in the university. This is being done on the performance of SOAS alumnae in their respective fields. Sir John Jenkins, was in SOAS in 1980, has displayed prowess and immediately after clearing his education, he was directly posted to Abu Dhabi. He has been the royal Ambassador of Britain to Saudi Arabia. In a second caption from the ofsted, Stephanie Al-Qaq has served as a Minister in Brazil after an undergraduate in the SOAS.
In the website, under the scale of international standards, it can be predicted that there is a lot of interactions between lecturers and students in terms of supervision. The university has the ratio of the student to lecturer as 13.4:1. This shows how performance is enhanced. In addition, the total population of the students in the university is around 5000. The comparative small population is enhanced so as not to overwhelm administration and to ease quality dispensation.
There has been a remarkable increase in the number of students enrolling in different courses being offered in the institution. It has been realized that of late the number of students ranges between 5000 and 7500. In addition, the number may be more than that because the number of students who are on distance learning program is approximated to be more than 3000 (Gov.uk, 2016). In spite of that, there are other constituent colleges of SOAS whose number is not included. It has also been noted that SOAS has a high retention rate. Hardly do they lose a student after admission. This has been an attracting way in which things are being dealt with internally. However, there has been reported cases, though not many, of students being not able to complete the courses they enroll in.
SOAS has a rich staff. Teaching staff can be calculated using the ratio provided herein. Suppose in every 13 students, there is a lecturer or two. This translates to around 400 teaching staff. That is only those who enters into lecture halls to impact knowledge. There are thos...
