Team Development Theories
These are models which define detailed strategies of creating and developing different teams within the organization. There are different types of theories developed by various individuals that are utilized by established corporations in harnessing team building within the organization. They are; Bruce Tuckman theory, Beilbin’s Theory, Carl Jung’s theory and Team Analysis theory.
Tuckman Theory
The model highlights the process in which a team tackles a task from its initial inception f the team through to the completion of the project. It is the most commonly used theory by many large organizations around the world. The theory has five main stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. These stages portray the level in which different teams within the organization may be situated at (Manges 2017, P 20 ). The most ideal state is illustrated by progressive nature via which teams advance in the stipulated stages.
Forming stage involves personal interaction between the team members. The team leader instills sense of familiarity within the group. Storming stage is depicted by internal conflicts within team members. A difference in personality and working ethic leads to work dysfunction within the group. Conflict resolution mechanisms are established during the norming stage. Performing stage displays synergy within team members. Adjourning is denoted by departure of team members once the defined project is complete.
