The American People Series #20: Die is a 182.9 x 365.8 cm oil on canvas, two panel set artwork that, from a brisk glance, bears deep depiction of spontaneous affair. Created by Faith Ringgold in 1967, the artwork is one of pieces on display at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. As an African American woman born in 1930, it was impossible for Ringgold to overlook the rigorous issues that faced America during the 60s. Her artwork was inspired by the racial discrimination and violence meted against African Americans during the civil rights protests that marked the era. As an artist, Ringgold as alarmed by the lack of documentation of the struggles, fighting, racism and killings of African American people civil rights period. She, therefore, took it upon herself to capture the issue that was deliberately sheltered away from the television, newspapers and mainstream media. Ringgold established her artwork on Picasso’s 1937 Guernica.
