Student’s Name Professor Course Date Lunar Colony Citizens Introduction Living on the moon has been a part of scientific obsession for several years. However, creating a lunar settlement would require a thoughtful organization to confront the same challenges the people on Earth face. Establishing a lunar colony requires the right mix of citizens to solve economic and human-related problems on the moon. According to Laufer, to create an effective lunar colony, there is a need to select the right people and develop the correct structures (para. 1). Selecting people to go on a lunar mission should start with determining the number of people and their contributions to the colony. The Citizenship Mini Q states that good citizens comprise personally responsible, participatory, and justice-oriented people (7). Creating a new lunar colony would require all three types of citizens due to the different skills they bring to the moon. For the lunar mission, I would select 600 responsible citizens, 300 participatory, and 100 justice oriented-citizens. The selection of these numbers for each cluster depends on the role-play demands in establishing a new settlement. This paper discusses the criteria for selecting 1000 right people for a lunar colony, focusing on a personally responsible, participatory, and justice-oriented mix of citizens. Boy Paragraphs Personally, responsible citizens are critical in the new settlement because they can help mobilize resources, pay taxes, and volunteer to offer services that make life better in the colony. Westheimer hints that responsible citizens can contribute to basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing to help the less fortunate cope with the new life (2). Responsible people are involved in charitable causes, such as offering money and tie to maintain good citizenship. Responsible citizens also obey laws, pay taxes and maintain cleanliness (Citizenship Mini Q 7). Due to the demanding roles in this category, 600 people would suffice the need to provide for the needs of others through volunteer and charitable works. They can volunteer for community service, build good character and help foster the virtues of hard work, discipline, integrity, and honesty to nurture a compassionate environment for human welfare. Participatory citizens actively participate at the national, state, and local levels (Weitheimer 2). Participating in community programs is essential for creating a new colony as it teaches people to support the development of causes in the lunar colony. Participatory people help plan and implement programs such as establishing community organizations, guiding policies, voting, and keeping the government in check. Given the need for involvement in community projects, about 300 people are enough to participate in lunar projects on behalf of the rest. Justice-oriented citizens help create governance structures to guide economic, political, and social engagements and provide mechanisms for resolving conflicts whenever they arise (Westheimer 2). The justice team can help address issues of fairness and equality of opportunities and foster democratic ideals in the lunar community. Because law enforcement requires a few people to maintain justice, about 100 people wo...
