1. A 6 year old Jersey cow(A which had calved one week ago ) was presented with a lateral recumbency with neck curved towards the right flank. The daily production was about 20 litres per day. On auscultation the heart sounds intensity was decreased and the cow was dehydrated. The cow was also managed on grass only.
a) Name the differential diagnosis/3mks

b) Name your tentative diagnosis based on the history. Explain on your arrival of the tentative diagnosis/2mks
Parturient paresis
Because of the cow showed lateral recumbency which is the 3rd stage of the disease.
c) Why is it advisable to feed a dry cow minerals which contain magnesium to prevent the disease in 1(b)/1mk
Magnesium helps Parathyroid Hormone(PHT) respond to low calcium levels
