Introduction
Aldi, Germany’s leading food retail chain, has defied odds to become one of the most popular brands across the globe. When the business was started in 1948, had a vision of developing it into a multinational retail store. With good policies and strategies in place, this company has established retail empires globally, thus positioning itself as a formidable market leader.
Strategies
The success currently enjoyed by the company can be attributed to its low pricing mechanism, rapid expansion to other markets, selling quality products and conservative culture that arouses consumer curiosity.
Low Pricing. Although Aldi sells quality products, most of its foodstuffs and beverages are lowly priced. This strategy is mainly appealing to price-conscious consumers. This tactic has helped Aldi flourish in the local market. Low purchasing power characterized the post-war German, and consumers were more inclined to buy products cheaply (Rice). As such, out of the market's demand for a shopping discount, Aldi adopted a low pricing strategy that has enabled them sell many products at pocket-friendly prices.
