Introduction
A self-driving car refers to a vehicle that has the capability of moving itself around without the input of a human being (Baker et al. 23). Sensors and automated controls enable self-driving vehicles to perceive their environments and to determine the most appropriate paths to follow. Car manufacturers such as Tesla, Audi, Toyota, and General Motors are working on the autonomous vehicle technology and hope to begin the production of self-driving vehicles by 2020 (Robertson 72). The purpose of this report is to discuss the positive effects of self-driving cars on the way people live. The research presented in this paper is important as it demonstrates what car consumers can expect from autonomous vehicle technology.
The Necessity of Self-Driving Car Technology
Innovation is an inevitable force in the automotive industry due to the changing needs of car consumers and businesses. Car manufacturers are integrating new technologies into the design and production of vehicles in order to meet the expectations of buyers such as reliability, utility, cost-effectiveness, and safety (Kate). Self-driving car technology is necessary because it is aligned with the emerging and future needs of motor vehicle consumers. Brian indicates that the competitiveness of automotive manufacturers is determined by their ability to align business strategies to the changing market conditions. Motor vehicle companies that produce better vehicles will be successful in addressing future problems pertaining to transportation. Autonomous vehicle technology is required because it is associated with positive effects on how people live. Problems with today’s automobiles, such as a predisposition to accidents, pollution of the environment, high-cost, and inefficiency indicate why self-driving car technology is needed (Cohen 329).
