Abstract
Tourism can be defined as an activity where individual or group of persons, visit places within or outside a country. This may be for a task, recreation or entertainment. This leads to awareness of civilizations and cultures. Tourism is one of the largest industries in today’s world economy having the greatest source of foreign exchange. Tourism and environment have a complex yet interdependent relationship.
The need to preserve the world’s intrinsic assets for future age bracket is becoming an essential objective. Therefore, for pass through and tourism for all other firms that use the earth’s natural resources. However, tourism, as one of the world’s fastest growing firms, has a whole host of results, both optimistic and pessimistic, on the surroundings.
Negative results will happen when the intensity of guest use gets advanced to the environment’s capacity to manage with this exercise. Positive force will take place when every traveler understands the actual and main notion of environment and sustainable tourism by heart, not just by word.
The location of Cancun is in the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico according to the world map. It is among the best tourist site in the world. The main attraction sites are the sports such as golf courses, water sports, archeological sites, a beautiful turquoise lagoon, filled with various indigenous species. The surrounding consists of beaches with white sand and an ocean filled with coral as well as a great biodiversity (Wong, 1993).
Over the years, tourism has led to substantial environmental problems. One of the main problems is the migration of people to the city of Cancun looking for jobs. Also, Cancun has to maintain the natural environment for the sake of the tourists. There is lagoon water pollution, destruction of sand dunes and mangroves as well as rain forest that surrounds the island getting destroyed. This can be used as an argument of how the tourism and the environment relate negatively. However, Cancun accommodates a lot of people who have travelled from all over the world. Therefore, the capacity carried has an effect to the environment, and this may lead to destruction. In view of this, most scholars argue that, most likely there is a conflicting relationship between the environment and tourism rather than symbiotic (Sharpley, 2012).
In this paper, the basic of the research is the relationship between tourism and environment and impacts in Cancun. Thus, discussed are the negative impacts tourism has to the environment around Cancun over the years. For instance, human and the vehicular traffic might have a negative impact to both the soil and the vulnerability of the plants.
The importance of this research is to amplify the awareness about some notion of tourism and environs relationships in Cancun. Consequently, to implement academic frameworks with some general and structural advances that can be broadly used in realistic, sustainable management of tours. This refers to some disputes and suggestions concerning tourism and surroundings. On the whole, its main purpose is to explain tourism and environment relations.
Introduction
Tourism can be viewed as an environmentally dependent activity. Broadly, the natural environments and the heritages belong to the people. For them to own the environment they need to understand, appreciate and conserve it so that they can yield maximally. Therefore, globalization, protection, conservation, interpretation, and presentation are different natural and cultural environment factors. Any region or country is a significant challenge for people in all parts of the world.
The purpose of this research is to broaden the knowledge about some general concepts about the environment and tourism, sustainable Development and tourism and ecotourism. Also, it creates some theoretical frameworks with overall and structural approaches that can broadly be used in practical, sustainable managing of tourism. Therefore, challenges and recommendations regarding tourism and environment get experienced. The main purpose is to explain the correlation between tourism and environment (Sharpley, 2012).
The plan of this study got based on desk research on tourism and environment. It includes an overview of researches, studies, books, and other relevant publications on Cancun. Consequently, it comes through a conceptual and general framework for environment conservation and sustainable tourism. This based on the information and experiences that authors had gathered via study and visits to dissimilar parts of the globe in contrast to Cancun. It is clear that the tourism industry in Cancun and all its dependent and independent issues are young, particularly with sustainable summit of view. Thus, it is essential to study and learn more about this delightful growing industry.
Environment and tourism impacts
Primarily when people talk of about tourism, it means visiting places for sightseeing, visiting friends, taking a vacation, or recreation purposes. They may spend their vacation time engaging in diverse sports, sunbathing, singing, riding, and touring, reading or simply enjoying the environment. These are the greatest activity at Cancun and may bring positive or negative impacts to the environment. Considering the subject of tourism, people who are participating in a conference, commerce, symposium, or some other professional activity are inclusive. However, it entails those taking a study trip under a proficient guide or doing technical explores. Scientific research is a significant activity in Cancun given the lagoons and the different species of wildlife (Michael, 2009).

Negative environmental impacts of tourism in Cancun
Negative physical, environmental impacts results from increased tourism activities in Cancun. This occurs when the level of guest use is greater than the environment’s capability to manage with this use contained by acceptable limits of change. The tourism- environmental negative relationship can further be categorized into different parts. These include resource usage and Pollution in and around Cancun.
Resource Usage
Tourism development requires natural resources in order to facilitate its expansion. Therefore, water and land are two key natural resources that can be threaten by tourism and as in the case of Cancun. Over the years, the uncontrolled conventional tourism in Cancun has posed a potential threat to many natural resources. It has put enormous pressure on the environment around the area and this guide to impacts such as soil erosion, pollution, sea discharges, habitat loss naturally, increased weight on endangered genus and vulnerability heightened due to increased vehicular activity. It can be classified into water, air, and aesthetic pollution. The major sources of water pollution come from oil spills, and industrial waste disposed into the sea, and from chemicals used in agriculture. In Cancun, the oil spills from the boats is a leading environmental concern considering the effect it causes to the aquatic life. Then the noticeable sources of air pollution, regarding tourism in and around Cancun associated with transport, both air and car through the burning of fossil fuels. This is due to increased tourism activity bearing in mind it the foremost tourist attraction in Mexico.
Noise pollution is also an understandable problem for those who reside around the busy island. However, the increased vehicular activities in the area that involve, noise and pollution from construction of tourism facilities. Cancun has been a bother both for residents and tourists. Aesthetic pollution is prevalent in coastal and mountainous areas. Therefore, tourism development got based on increasing profits whilst ignoring aesthetic concerns since Cancun not yet exceptional.
In this situation, tourism around Cancun has been environment’s enemy, but they can be two close friends, if they planned correctly and also with the cooperation of all other organizations or industries related to tourism directly and indirectly. In order to understand that whether they can be friends or not; at first it is necessary to know how they can help each other, which enlightens in further sections.
Positive impacts of tourism on the environment around Cancun
Tourism is one of the world’s largest industries, having eye-catching growth over the past three decades. During these decades, tourism converted into a complex phenomenon, with economic, social, cultural, or environmental dimensions as regarding the case at Cancun.
