Question 1 * Population occupies ages 0-84 years. Highest percentage of population are between ages 54-64 years and the lowest percentage of population being the old 80-84 years. Distribution by gender is close to equal throughout the age. * The reproductive and pre-reproductive ages predicts the future populations. Much of the population are in post-productive age. This can predict that the growth of the population is moderate in the future due almost equal distribution across the ages. Distribution of sex is also favorable for moderate growth. * Yes. The population distribution by sex is almost similar across the ages but gradual differences across the ages is evident. They can be divided into three, 0-24 years more male than female, 24-64 years more female than male, and 64 – 84 years more males than females. * Yes. The young generation within the ages 0-44 years are less than expected when compared to older population of 44-84. The older population in the ages 50-64 years is large than the rest age groups. The distribution could be a result of urbanization and modern ways of managing families. * The data from the chart, they correspond to the Farrell’s growth Triad; natural urban growth, internal migration and reclassification by government. It has believed that rural urban migration is the major cause of population growth in urban areas which is not the case with St. Louis. Question 2 Farrell’s idea Farrell argues that the traditional view that the urban population is caused by the rural-urban migration. He argues that as the cities continue to grow and develop especially in developing country, growth is contributed by what he termed as triad (Farrell, 2017). The major argument is that population growth in urban areas is due to natural urban population growth, internal and inter-cities migration and reclassification by the political administrations (Farrell, 2017).
