Second Wave Feminism revolves around the idea that “the personal is political.” Find an artist who isn’t addressed/required from this era to feature. Create a video post that features one (1) piece that you think supports the Second Wave Feminist idea and post it with your initial thoughts for your peers to comment on. Respond to two of your peers’ initial postings that did not select the same piece as your initial post (can be same artist/different piece).

Art and Feminism: Mary Beth Edelson
Second-wave feminism began in the early 1960s in the United States and lasted for more than two decades (Nehere, 2016). Around this time, the art feminist movement kicked off, as female artists tried to find their space in the male-dominated art world. The Leonardo da Vinci-esque mural by Mary Beth Edelson was one of the most notable art pieces during the second-wave feminism. Scholars have rated her work as one of the most iconic during the time, as it was a direct challenge to the male-dominated art scene (Nehere, 2016). Edelson replaced the heads of the males on the original painting by Leonardo da Vinci with women, which was a significant step in advocating for the feminist agenda of equality between men and women.
