Introduction
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the major organic complex that provides energy in a living cell. The energy is useful in carrying out various functions of cells. When it is used in metabolic processes in cells, it is converted to adenosine diphosphate and adenosine monophosphate. The paper elaborates an understanding of the synthesis of ATP, the metabolic pathways followed in ATP formation and analysis of the oxidative phosphorylation process.
Discussion
ATP is generated through cellular respiration (Mills et al., 2017). Different sources describe cellular respiration as the metabolic process, which aids in breakdown of glucose in the presence of oxygen to release ATP in living cells. There are different stages in cellular respiration which assist in synthesizing ATP. During cellular respiration, glucose is manipulated into water and carbon dioxide as ATP is produced directly. The entire process of ATP formation occurs in the mitochondrion, which has various parts that carry out different functions related to ATP formation such as matrix.
