Engineering Controls Vs Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Over the years, Engineering controls have provided better control of hazards in the working environment compared to the personal protective equipment (PPE). Engineering controls are applied to remove possible hazards at the source before coming into contact with the employees (Holt & Allen, 2015). To decide on the best option, there is a need for experts to consider engineering solutions, which includes a change in physical elements around the workplace. When engineering controls cannot be used, administrative controls take over, but again, if the administrative controls are not effective, work practice controls can be considered then finally the PPE. Because of the cost effectiveness that come with the use of engineering controls, it is worth the cost and implementation.
