Legionella Pneumophila Name of Student Institute Affiliation Abstract A respiratory condition known as Legionella Pneumophila’s disease is brought on by drinking polluted water. The rivers, lakes, and reservoirs worldwide have large populations of this bacteria. Article Summary Cianciotto (2021) described in the article, Legionella Pneumophila’s is a rapidly expanding bacterium that may be discovered in water sources worldwide. Those with weakened immune systems are more vulnerable to contracting this virus. In this way, there is an increased chance of illness, particularly for smokers and those with a chronic or underlying ailment Legionella Pneumophila Information Taxonomic Classification- According to the taxonomic categorization scheme, Legionella Pneumophila belongs to the kingdom Negibacteria, the phylum Proteobacteria, and the class Gammaproteobacteria (Cianciotto, 2021). It is categorized as a Gammaproteobacteria since it belongs to the Proteobacteria phylum. These bacteria can colonize and multiply inside the host's cells as Legionellales. Interesting facts on diseases and historical eras- Delegates from the American Legion were found to have Legionella in 1976, during a pandemic in Philadelphia (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021). People who were infected displayed symptoms resembling pneumonia. Morphological and growth characteristics- Gram-negative bacilli have rod-shaped fimbriae called Legionella. Bacteria can range in size from 2 to 20 micrometers. Their outer peptidoglycan membrane is less dense and more permeable since they are gram-negative. The ideal legionella development ranges from 77 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit. Disease Geography, Route of Transmission, and Mechanisms of Pathogenesis- This opportunistic sickness is more common in those with previous illnesses or weakened immune systems. Smoking, lung illness from a previous ailment and advanced age increase the likelihood of developing this condition. Inhaling or ingesting contaminated water mists or droplets allows L. pneumophila to spread (Cianciotto, 2021). Legionella bacteria are an intracellular pathogen because their proliferation starts inside the macrophage. The circumstances are perfect for infections to multiply and spread. Life Cycle- The life cycle of L. pneumophila contains four stages. They initially fortify themselves by forming a group. At this point, the bacteria start looking for an amoebic host. The next phase is one of formation. The bacteria take all of the food that is there at this stage of growth in order to grow. The bacteria leave the cell wall and start looking for a new host once they have consumed all of the resources available to the amoeba (Cianciotto, 2021). After then, it has two choices: either it will remain in the local biofilm and search for a new amoeba host, or it may flee and enter the larger water system (HydroSense, n.d.). Diagnosis and treatment suggestions- L. pneumonia causes symptoms including breathing problems, coughing, fever, chills, muscle aches, and headaches when it e...
