A machine that uses electromagnetic or electric fields to speed up subatomic particles to very high speeds is called particle accelerator. Most of the time, the sped-up particles are made to crash or to collide into other particles, either to make high-energy gamma and X-rays. I will discuss here for brief history of particle accelerator, its working principle, diagrams, timeline, future work, roles for humanity and pros and cons. Overall, what we do know is that particle accelerators are very, very cool and have a lot of potential to change the world, but we haven't found all the ways they can be used yet. By the way, you should also know that Stephen Hawking, one of the world's leading experts on the idea of time travel, says that one of the many possible uses of a particle accelerator is as a time machine.

Introduction:
A machine that uses electromagnetic or electric fields to speed up subatomic particles to very high speeds is called particle accelerator. Most of the time, the sped-up particles are made to crash or to collide into other particles, either to make high-energy gamma and X-rays. I will discuss here for brief history of particle accelerator, its working principle, diagrams, timeline, future work, roles for humanity and pros and cons.
History of particle accelerator
At the beginning of the 20th century, Ernest Rutherford found that he could split nitrogen atoms by hitting them with alpha particles from natural radioactive sources. This was the main reason because of which people started making on accelerators. To keep working on his research, he needed a source of "atomic projectiles" with more energy and power than what natural radioactive sources could give. Rutherford pushed Cockcroft and Walton to use a 400 kV generator to speed up protons and shoot them at a lithium target in 1932. This was the first time that humans had full control over splitting the atom.
With the help of DC volatges, like those from the Cockroft-Walton generator and then Van de Graaff power source or generator, to speed up particles was restricted by how much voltage the machine could make. Swedish physicist Ising came up with the idea of resonant acceleration to address the issue. In this method, the same voltage is hit over and over on a set of
