One of the major factors influencing success in any organization is a having an excellent team of experts at disposal. Creating a 'power team' is crucial to the development of a successful business, and companies will certainly be lost without professionals to advise and guide them on the entrepreneurial journey (Sheridan, 2012). Therefore, Corporations should provide whatever resources needed in building their own 'power team'. However, the question on the proper tools and resources remain unanswered. How can companies identify, recruit, and retain the right people for every position? How can they conduct interviews to identify the right talents and make the best hiring decisions? How can they motivate teams in achieving and sustaining powerful performance? How can companies exploit on the diversity and strengths of team members in achieving results? These questions form the basis of this study.
Hiring talented people is crucial to business success. Nevertheless, before hiring the most talented individuals, they have to first recruit them. Recruitment of employees can be a challenging exercise, particularly filling certain kinds of jobs. As such, recruiters are faced with making critical decisions, comprising whom to target, the kind of information to convey, and how to supervise recruitment processes. If done improperly, a company’s recruitment efforts can yield employment candidates who are less qualified, lack diversity or who may fail to accept job offers. Similarly, these contenders may be susceptible to turnover if hired. Poor design of recruitment efforts can miss qualified and talented job applicants, which comprise of those working for competitors since they will never discover that there is a job opening. The second crucial step in the hiring process is interviewing. According to Arthur (2012), an interview is described as an official conversation with an individual, intended to obtain information or evaluate their suitability for the position. Job interviews are essential to help employers to extract first-hand information and facts about a potential employee. Also, it helps the candidates to get much information about the company or organization before making a decision to join them. Corporations and recruitment agencies lays more emphasis on interviews because they are certainly interested to obtaining accurate and necessary about the applicants and also create a good relationship with the potential employees. In addition, it is at this stage that most employers agree on different terms of employment with their potential employees (Kruse, 2012).
However, it is not only the hiring process that builds a power team. The workplace is rapidly changing. Companies are acknowledging that besides having the skills and talents to execute a job, employees should be able to fit into an organization and cooperate with their colleagues. Therefore, motivation of employees is crucial to any business. According to Thomas (2010), employee motivation is defined as a factor or factors influencing employees to pursue work goals or causing them to act in a certain way. A motivated team implies high productive personnel, all of which will be significant in ensuring that an organization meets its goals. Corporations need to understand what motivates employees to build an effective motivational strategy. Issues of factors that drive them to their maximum performance will help in the development of strategies and programs that motivate and retain the best workforce. Even though not every employee will get driven by the same thing, emphasizing on a list of major motivational programs can be helpful. The significance of employee motivation in the workplace can never be ignored by an organization. Ultimately, motivated employees lead to increased work output, low turnover, and improvement in the overall performance (Evans, 2004).
