Case Study Analysis
Employees are an integral component of organizations since they are responsible for operationalizing organizational strategies to attain the desired goals. As a result, firms spend millions of dollars on attracting, recruiting and retaining talented employees. However, for this pool of talented employees to be beneficial to organizations, the management must put in place effective organizational structure and culture. Pfizer is among the few companies that acknowledge that having talented employees alone is not sufficient to drive organizational productivity and innovation. Instead, these employees need to be supported by an effective organizational structure and culture that directs how this talent should be harnessed.
In the case study, Pfizer demonstrates attributes of an effective organization that is ready to address any issues that lower the productivity of its employees. The company’s PfizerWorks initiative allows its employees to be more productive by enabling them to focus on the fundamental tasks that they were hired to execute. As outlined in the case study, Pfizer staffs were primarily hired to develop strategies and drive innovation at the company. However, the efficiency of the employees to perform these two crucial roles was being inhibited by menial tasks that entailed googling and making PowerPoints.
