The Importance of Flexibility in the Workplace
Workplace flexibility defines the willingness and ability of both employers and employees to respond and adjust to changing circumstances and expectations. Examples of employer flexibility terms include adjustable time-in and time-out schedules, work location independence, increased paid time offs, and opportunities for sabbaticals or career breaks. For employees, being called upon to take on a presentation when they were to write a report requires excellent adjustments. Both the employee and employer should adopt some limit of adjustability. Flexibility is essential in the workplace because it presents win-win situations with the benefits of work-life balance, job satisfaction, employee productivity, and high organization profitability
The necessity for workplace flexibility is driven by the unavoidable needs of both the employer and the employee. In a profoundly transforming digital world, many tasks can be performed from any location via telecommuting. The most vital need to be met in any task is to get the job done. Whether this is done from the office or other locations does not matter as long as it is perfectly executed (Quelch & Knoop, 2018).
