Modern business leaders embrace inclusive leadership style given the diversity of workforces and client bases. The leaders’ primary aim is to bring out the best of the employees irrespective of their cultural backgrounds. Such leaders develop and encourage others by highlighting their accomplishments. They believe in the power of diversity in the clientele and workforce and reveal that everyone is important in the success of the organization. In this way, the leaders develop interpersonal relationships with their co-workers, which enhance their motivation and commitment to their job roles.
Inclusive leaders are different from other types of leaders because they understand that they cannot provide answers to the changes that an organization face. Consequently, they encourage subordinates to offer opinions on the best way to solve organizational problems, which improves innovation and creativity in the workforce. On the contrary, other types of leaders could establish that they would be providing solutions to ant challenges that arise in the business. As such, employees would be dissuaded challenge the leaders’ decisions, which reduces motivation and job satisfaction. For instance, when implementing a change in the business, inclusive leaders engage a large number of employees in finding ideal ways to push their organization forward. On the other hand, other leadership styles would encourage managers to design and impose changes to the subordinates. Such occurrences lead to increased resistance to change from the workers (Martin, Liao, H., & Campbell, 2013).
Inclusive leaders build an environment where every person feels appreciated. The leaders could adopt small methods to make the workers feel appreciated such as praising them in public. On the contrary, some other leaders could criticize underperformers in public, which has detrimental effects on workers’ self-esteem and confidence.
