Technology is changing fast all over the world. This makes it necessary for the hospitality industry to adopt the latest in the market. The following are some of the new available for the hospitality industry:
Mobile Communication.
This is necessitated by the fact that many travelers carry portable devices when they travel. These devices may include smartphones, tablets, personal digital assistants and even laptops. Managers can use this devices to communicate with travelers on issues such as delays, offers available or even for advertising. Communication can be done through GPS tagging, short message texts and emails. Use of mobile devices eliminates the manual system of booking by travelers (McIndoe, 2013). It enables the traveler to book even when they are far away and also communicate with the staff from any part of the world. They can also seek information and raise queries from anywhere. Responses to queries are fast and sometimes in the case of phone calls, real time. This eliminates the costs associated with constructing immobile reception desks at every station. This makes the process of communication with travelers easier, efficient, reliable and efficient and cheap. These benefits are also available to small scale proprietors as the cost of the hardware and software is relatively cheap.
Social Media
This is the latest form of communication in the world. In the recent past, its popularity has grown amongst people from all over the world. The impact of this media has also been felt in the hospitality industry. Some of the most used social media platforms include Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and WhatsApp. It would be unwise for hoteliers to ignore social media. The companies should continuously monitor the social media and take appropriate measures. The company can engage in marketing through social media as it has a large number of people using it. They should also use social media to advertise as it is cheap and accessible to people from any part of the globe (McIndoe, 2013). The management can respond to questions or queries raised by people through social media, for example, Twitter. This boosts the company's image. The proprietors can also take advantage of comments and criticism raised on these social media platforms to improve their services.
Wi-Fi/High Speed Data
Wireless technology has in the past several years undergone major transformations. One of the major wireless communication network is Wi-Fi. It allows the customers to access the internet from any point within the hotel such as a bar, pool, guest room or restaurant (flexsys, n.d.). Research has indicated that hotels account for the majority of the Wi-Fi hotspots in the world. Internet access influences the overall customer experience. It also has an impact on the service delivery by the hotel. It is a major attraction to business travelers who use a majority of their time on the internet (Watkins, 2013). Other customers especially the ones with devices such as smart phones have a constant need for internet access for purposes of responding to emails, conversing on social media or even internet banking. A hotel without Wi-Fi would lose out on this customer hence leading to lesser collection in revenue (McIndoe, 2013). It can also lead to increase in revenue by using it to sell products to travelers. Hoteliers can take advantage of its demand by offering vouchers to guest rather than providing free Wi-Fi. The main challenge in offering this is providing high quality access and high speed.
Globalization
Countries become linked as they trade. These links are very important to the hospitality industry. This implies that the hotel technological systems available now must be changed to reflect a global perspective. This involves improving scalability and using international languages (McIndoe, 2013). It may also involve learning ethics of different countries, as well as their regulations. This issues continuously redefine the hospitality business entirely. Use of technology that reflects globalization leads to a surge in the number of customers and, therefore, boosts a company's profits. Its global image is also enhanced.
Cloud Computing
This is a technology that allows one to store data virtually and access it from a different location. This means that data can be accessed off-site by the management. This reduces the cost of running a business b...
