"Is there a Realistic Way to Re-unite the Two Koreas?"
The re-uniting of North and South Korea appears forthcoming, but it might prove unattainable due to the economic, social, and political differences between the two countries. Therefore, the move will not be sustainable and might even worsen the relation of the nations. However, there are positive signs such as the recent invitation to the Olympics by the Southern side to the North, which was accepted. Nevertheless, it might not be realistic to unite the South and North Korea due to the cost implications that it might have of the economically advanced South, and the differences in ideologies.
South Korea has been stable as compared to her Northern counterpart, which has allowed her to advance economically and politically. Over the decades, the South has invested in empowering her citizens through education, health and provision of the social amenities. Therefore, the re-uniting will be at the expense of the South because she will have to massively invest to ensure the citizens of the North are educated, and will not suffer inferiority among the southerners. According to Harding (2018), the reunification would cost over three trillion dollars, which would not be sustainable for both countries. Therefore, it would be hard to pursue the agenda economically.
